BN seat allocation a private matter, says Liow

-

MALACCA: MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai yesterday said seat distribution among Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties should be discussed internally.

He said such internal matters were discussed at the BN supreme council meetings and he was not at liberty to speak on the matter.

“Whatever BN seat exchanges must be discussed internally and not through the newspapers,” he said after opening the MCA Malacca convention at the state MCA office here, adding that BN always adopted fair principles and there were no issues about seat allocations.

He said the Opposition was frequently fighting over seat allocations.

“After winning 38 parliamentary and 95 state seats, the Opposition are still unable to produce results,” he said.

In KUALA SELANGOR, MIC president Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam said the party would continue contesting in its traditional state constituent and parliamentary seats in the coming general election.

However, he said discussions remain open on whether the seat-swapping strategy mapped out is beneficial for both MIC and other BN component parties.

“This is provided that it is beneficial and no party will be at the losing end.

“If the other party wants to exchange seats, we can discuss it. But it must be agreed on a win-win basis, and not at the expense of MIC,” he said after launching a pilot initiative of the Temple Transformation Centre programme at the Sri Thandayuthapani temple in Bestari Jaya, Selangor.

The centre, which is part of seven priority initiatives based on the the Malaysian Indian Blueprint implementation targets, is under the purview of the Socio Economic Development of the Indian Community.
