Neville: Jose wants people to shut up

-

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Gary Neville has defended Jose Mourinho - despite the manager turning on his own fans.

The Portuguese has come under criticism for his team’s displays against title rivals.

United have dominated for large amounts this season, especially when facing weaker opposition.

But the Red Devils were far from convincing in recent games away to Liverpool and at home to Tottenham. While Manchester United kept a clean sheet in both, they struggled to make an impact in attack too.

Off the back of the goalless draw at Anfield, Mourinho was then booed for hooking forward Marcus Rashford at 0-0 against Spurs.

However, his replacement Anthony Martial bagged the late winner, leading to Mourinho to shush supporters at Old Trafford at the final whistle.

Neville sympathises with the United boss and believes he sent a strong message to his critics on Saturday.

“I think it’s a man who feels as though he’s being unfairly attacked probably in the last couple of weeks,” Neville said on Monday Night Football.

“That was him saying ‘I told you so, keep your mouths shut, do one everybody, I know what I’m doing, I’m in control, I’m a winner’.

“That is an outstanding record not to lose at home for 36 matches, I have to say.”
