Takaful Malaysia donates RM100,000
PETALING JAYA: Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Berhad yesterday contributed RM100,000 to theSun Cares Fund to aid flood victims in Penang.
The donation will be utilised to supplement resources of theSun, which is planning a relief mission this weekend.
“At Takaful Malaysia, we believe in supporting our local community through charitable activities, as responsible corporate conduct is a fundamental principle of our company,” said Takaful Malaysia Group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Mohamed Hassan Kamil ( pix).
“We truly understand how devastating it can be for the victims struggling to cope with the floods as there would definitely be a direct financial impact on them,” he said.
“As such, we are privileged and honoured to step forward and make a contribution that will be used to provide immediate relief to help affected families.
“This is our way of continuing our proud legacy in uplifting the lives of the unfortunate and we hope that our contribution will help ease their burden.”
He said corporate social responsibility (CSR) has always been an integral aspect of Takaful’s corporate initiatives and the company is always looking out for opportunities to contribute to the community under its CSR programme, “Takaful myJalinan Kasih”.
In 2015, Takaful Malaysia contributed RM150,000 to theSun Cares Fund for relief operations in aid of flood victims in the east coast. theSun distributed over RM300,000 in aid items to flood victims in Pahang, Kelantan and Perak that year. PETALING JAYA: Mercy Malaysia has been working to provide aid to flood victims in Penang since Sunday.
To date, 600 families have received aid in the form of hygiene kits, mattresses and blankets, and medical services.
On Sunday, Mercy set up a base in Seberang Perai Utara to provide aid.
For a start, 500 hygiene kits were sent to four evacuation centres, providing immediate relief to hundreds of affected families.
Yesterday, mats and blankets were distributed to 100 families in two evacuation centres and homes where the families had returned.
A medical team arrived yesterday evening to set up a mobile clinic at the Desa Puri evacuation centre in support of efforts by the Health Ministry.
The area was identified as one of the worse-hit, with houses submerged up to the roof after a river nearby overflowed.
Since it began operation, the medical team at the clinic had treated 187 patients.
Mercy also distributed 498 hygiene kits to 493 families at flood relief centres at SK Kubang Menerong, SK Bertam Indah, SK Lubuk Meriam and SK Padang Menora.
Mercy is also working with government agencies, other nongovernmental organisations and local communities on post-flood recovery initiatives.
“Mercy Malaysia adopts the internationally-recognised Total Disaster Risk Management approach, where we not only assist in the emergency response but also in the recovery, prevention and preparedness stages post-disaster,” said Mercy Malaysia executive director Amran Mahzan.
