Roads in Klang inundated
> Several districts affected, resulting in massive traffic jams due to road closures
SHAH ALAM: Floodwaters almost a metre deep hit some areas in Klang yesterday following heavy rain.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Mohd Sani Harul said water began rising at Bandar Bukit Raja, Taman Maznah and Taman Sungai Rasau at about 4.30am.
The department received calls as early as 5am on floods in Bandar Bukit Raja and Taman Rasah, and dispatched teams to monitor the situation and assist the public.
Firefighters rescued a lorry driver and his assistant who were trapped in their vehicle after it stalled in floodwaters in Bukit Raja.
However, no evacuations were necessary as the floodwaters began to subside at 8.30am.
“There are no reports of casualties or residents having to move to evacuation centres,” Mohd Sani said.
Meanwhile, North Klang district police chief ACP Mazelan Paijan said several roads were inundated and had to be closed.
The roads included the stretch from the Sungai Rasau toll plaza to the traffic lights towards the Shapadu Highway, Jalan Sungai Rasau, Km3.5 of the Shapadu Highway towards Shah Alam, Jalan Rajawali in Klang and Persiaran Sultan Ibrahim towards the Shapadu Highway toll plaza. The road closures resulted in massive traffic congestion. – Bernama
