Accept others as they are
ACCEPTING others unconditionally allows them to remove their masks and feel at ease.
The sincerity of being accepted gives them the freedom to be themselves, and then lets them accept themselves too.
The first kind of acceptance is to accept myself, as I am what I am. Then accepting others no longer becomes a problem.
Like musical notes, people are different. When I pick up a guitar to play, I will need to use two hands.
With one hand, I hold down a chord. With my other hand, I will pluck the strings – six strings vibrating at their own frequency, creating their own individual sounds.
However, it is that very difference in the sound of each note that creates the end result of a beautiful tonal image. It is the differences that make life interesting. If people were exactly the same, life would be boring.
Why waste time and energy trying to change someone else’s behaviour?
Remember, the only person you can change is yourself. Adapt, be flexible, and adjust your expectations.
We should accept a pleasant or unpleasant situation without any reservation. Resistance will only upset our mood and jeopardise our wellbeing. Accepting the situation gives us a chance to muster our inner resources.
Respond to a situation in a more positive and reasonable way and turn that situation into a process of learning new lessons and initiating suitable actions without getting upset.
Change in yourself will impact on those around you, and may be a catalyst for changes in them too, but don’t expect them to change.
