Chinese youth urged to join TN50 forums
HUA ZONG (Federation of Chinese Associations of Malaysia) president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah has urged Chinese youths, particularly their leaders, to actively take part in National Transformation 2050 (TN50) dialogue sessions.
“Don’t miss the opportunity to speak up and give suggestions on developing the country in the next 30 years,” he said.
Speaking at a gathering of the Xiang Lian Youth Association of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, in which Outstanding Xiang Lian Youth awards were presented, Pheng said he found that local Chinese youths were not keen on TN50, especially dialogue sessions on the plan which involve their peers from other ethnic groups.
“Their involvement (in such dialogue sessions) is far from satisfactory. It has to be enhanced,” he said.
“Chinese youth leaders should take this issue seriously. In subsequent (TN50) dialogue sessions, they should mobilise the whole lot (of Chinese youths) to take an active part and speak up so that the view of the Chinese community can be included in the TN50 agenda,” Pheng was quoted as saying in a report in Sin Chew Daily yesterday.
He also homed in on the rampant use of crude or foul language among Malaysians, “particularly on social media such as Facebook”.
Some of the remarks made by politicians left much to be desired, he added.
He said Chinese, especially the younger generation, should lead by example in ridding the society of this culture of bad-mouthing and spitting profanities, and to maintain a high moral standard.
