Asians travel style
A REPORT suggests that Japanese holidaymakers are the region’s biggest foodies, Australians are the most adventurous, and the Chinese seek out luxurious experiences more than others.
That’s according to the findings of a new report from Expedia Media Solutions, the advertising arm of Expedia, which polled 3,000 travellers in Australia, Japan and China earlier this year.
When it comes to travel preferences, a destination’s culinary experiences outranked price and activities for Millennial and Boomer travellers in Japan compared to China and Australia.
Younger Millennial and Generation Z travellers in China said their biggest priority was to “feel pampered” on their holidays, while Australians, particularly the Generation X and Boomer travellers, place the biggest importance on the kinds of activities a destination offers.
For the survey, Generation Z is grouped as 18- to 23-year-olds; Millennials from 24 to 35; Generation X from 36 to 55; and Boomers from 55 and older.
The survey also revealed that of the three, the Japanese are most likely to holiday within their own country, with only 14% of Japanese respondents saying their last trip was taken outside their country.
That compares to Australia, where 45% said they had travelled abroad for their last trip, and China, where the figure is 27%.
Analysts also found that while hotel rates take up the largest portion of budgets for travellers in China and Japan, flights eat up the biggest part of the budget for Australian travellers.
Likewise, Chinese Millennials emerged the biggest shoppers, allocating the largest percentage of their travel budget (18%) to retail therapy. – AFP-Relaxnews
