Klang’s third bridge to ease traffic by 20%
> Sultan Sharafuddin officially opens 2.5km Jambatan Raja Muda Nala
KLANG: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, yesterday officiated at the “Klang Third Bridge” and also announced the bridge will be named after the son of the first state ruler.
Sultan Sharafuddin revealed the bridge will be named Jambatan Raja Muda Nala, after one of the children of Sultan Sallehuddin Shah, the first Sultan of Selangor.
It is expected to reduce traffic congestion in Klang by 20% and ease the load on the other two bridges – Jambatan Kota and Jambatan Tengku Kelana.
The third bridge connects the northern and southern parts of Klang through Jalan Goh Hock Huat and Jalan Sungai Bertih respectively and will facilitate traffic flow between Klang north (Kapar, Meru, Federal Highway, NKVE) and Klang south (Port Klang, Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Bandar Botanic, KESAS, SKVE), and diverts traffic from the Klang town centre.
The 2.5km-long bridge spanning the Klang River cost RM199 million, and connects Teluk Pulai and Sungai Bertek with Tanjung Syawal.
Also present at the ceremony were Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and his wife Datin Seri Shamsidar Taharin.
Construction of Jambatan Raja Muda Nala began on July 17, 2014 and was completed on June 15 this year, with Cergas Murni Sdn Bhd as the contractor.
In his speech, Azmin said the project was fully funded by the state government without any form of loans from any local or foreign financial institutions.
“This is a quality development by the state government with the rakyat’s safety and wellbeing in mind, as well as to guarantee conservation of the environment and forests, and cultivating green technology.”
Azmin said the bridge could also help attract investors to Selangor by easing traffic in Klang.
