POPULAR online shopping platform Shopee recently celebrated turning two with a big birthday bash in Petaling Jaya.

The celebration also marked two major milestones for the ecommerce platform. It hit more than five million downloads of its free mobile app in Malaysia alone, and over 200,000 sellers and established brands on its local site.

Shopee also declared its significant presence in seven countries – Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines – highlighting its two-year journey of marked growth across the region.

Since its launch in 2015, the Shopee family has grown to over 2,500 employees, a pivotal factor in achieving its success rate of having over 180 million active listings by more than four million sellers, in addition to offering amazing discounts and easy, secure online shopping experiences to consumers.

Shopee regional managing director Ian Ho said: “Shopee has always been committed to listening to the needs and preferences of our users, and has worked to create a platform that is tailored to exactly that.

“Whether it is providing a fuss-free and convenient shopping experience for buyers, or offering a reliable and secure platform for brands and budding entrepreneurs to expand their online presence, Shopee strives to continue improving the lives of the region’s consumers and business with technology.”

Shopee offers well-known brands like Pets Wonderland, MyDin, Lovely Lace, Digi, and Pureen, on the dedicated Shopee Mall.

MyDin Malaysia IT director Malik Murad, who was present at the event, said: “MyDin sees ecommerce as an important business channel to complement current traditional [brick and mortar] stores, and with Shopee, we are able to offer our customers free shipping across Malaysia.

“We are fortunate to be able to work with Shopee to provide our customers across the nation with great savings, for both food and non-food items.”

At the event, guests were entertained by local comedian Harith Iskandar, and had a sneak peek at the first Shopee Malaysia television commercial, which aired this month on local television.

In conjunction with Shopee’s second anniversary, the ecommerce marketplace will also reward customers with back-to- back savings in its birthday sale from Dec 1 to 14.

There will be flash deals for as low as RM12, and over RM500,000 vouchers to be won, as well as the much-anticipated 12.12 Mega Deals.

Adding to the festivities are exclusive promotions from Shopee official partners – such as RM50 Digi accessories vouchers going for RM12 – and 1,212 B Points from B Infinite awarded to 121 lucky customers.

Customers who make a minimum purchase of RM100 and pay through official payment partner FPX will also be in the running to win a trip for two to Honolulu, as well as an iPhone X.

Meanwhile, an iPad mini 4 and 500,000 Shopee coins are up for grabs when shoppers upload a picture with the Shopee birthday frame on Facebook, from now to Dec 12.

There will also be a weekly RM500 cash giveaway to one lucky winner who shares a picture of his/her Shopee haul on Instagram from now till Dec 22.
