WOLVES extended their lead at the top of the Championsh­ip to five points despite drawing 0-0 with 10-man Sunderland at Molineux.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side could not take full advantage of Cardiff’s inactivity at the weekend, with the Bluebirds travelling to Reading today, after failing to score at home for the first time this season.

Sunderland, who were forced to play 28 minutes with 10 men after Lee Cattermole received two yellow cards in the space of 54 seconds, remain one point adrift of safety.

Sebastian Larsson struck a superb 30-yard free-kick to ensure Nigel Adkins started his reign as Hull manager with a 3-2 victory over Brentford at the KCOM Stadium.

After the visitors went ahead though David Meyler’s own goal in the 47th minute, Hull responded through Kamil Grosicki, Larsson and Jackson Irvine.

John Egan set up a nervy finish with three minutes remaining but Hull held on to bolster their survival hopes following the departure of Leonid Slutsky.

Derby moved up to fourth with a 3-0 victory at struggling Barnsley. Gary Rowett’s side leapfrogge­d Aston Villa after Millwall battled hard for a goalless draw at Villa Park.
