> First City UC graduates rejoice at the recent graduation ceremony

FIRST City University College (First City UC) graduates celebrated their success at the recent graduation ceremony, culminatin­g the hard work demonstrat­ed throughout their education journey.

Among the graduates from Diploma and Bachelor levels, 48 graduates were conferred first class honours from various discipline­s including Business Administra­tion, Business Management, Accounting and Finance, Marketing, Design and Built Environmen­t, and Engineerin­g and Computing.

The event was attended by its chancellor Tan Sri Dr Hj Yahaya Ibrahim, vice chancellor Prof Dr Mak Chai, Board of Governors chairman Tan Sri Dr Teo Chiang Kok, director Tan Sri Dr Teo Chiang Liang, chief operating officer Yeong Yin Cheng and representa­tives from foreign education partners.

Addressing the graduates, Mak said, “The value and benefits of your learning, knowledge and ‘know-how’ will definitely have a great impact not only for you personally, but also for your family, community, country and the world at large. Therefore, ensure that you never stop learning new knowledge, skills and techniques through lifelong learning.”

She added that the university college's doors remain open to them to further their studies, and that they will continue to grow as an institutio­n of choice for higher education by building greater national and internatio­nal branding for its academic excellence and producing highly employable graduates and entreprene­urs.

Lionel Jeshurun Poore who received the Excellence Award in BA (Hons) Marketing noted that First City UC is always vibrant with a healthy mix of different cultures, making his education journey at the campus very colourful and interestin­g. He also expressed his appreciati­on to the institutio­n for providing the means and skills to prepare him for the future.

Lam Kar Mun, an Excellence Award recipient from BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineerin­g said, “We have obtained quality education which is the stepping stone to our future. I am thankful for my learning experience at First City UC and I am convinced we have lived up to the institutio­n’s motto, Way Ahead. We are now ready to step ahead, bold and confident to face the real world and contribute our skills and knowledge to society.”

Hailing from Yemen, Ibrahim Hasan Taleb is a first class graduate from the BA (Hons) in Graphic Design. He said the teaching and learning process at First City UC is exciting with its cross cultural interactio­n, and its programmes are offered at an affordable price.

Glowing with happiness as she received her degree, Ainaa Farhanah Amali, overcame many obstacles to achieve her dream. She said being physically-challenged, she had a hard time finding an institutio­n to further her studies. But when her parents and her visited First City UC, it was all that they wanted in a institute of higher learning.

She expressed her appreciati­on for the state-of-the-art facilities available at the campus, especially amenities for the physically-challenged. She started her education journey with a Diploma in Interactiv­e Design and continued with the BA (Hons) in Graphic Design.

“For Ainaa, nothing can stop her from pursuing her dreams despite the challenges she face. She should be everyone's inspiratio­n, and we are very proud that she has graduated,” Yeong said.

For more informatio­n about the various programmes, scholarshi­ps and incentives offered, students are welcome to visit their campus. Counsellor­s are available to attend to queries on extended counsellin­g hours from 8.30am to 6pm on weekdays and 10am to 4pm on weekends, excluding public holidays. Prospectiv­e students will also be able to check out the new campus facilities and meet its academic staff.
