BRUTAL KILLING

-

Police have identified the victim but are withholding his name as investigations are ongoing.

The man had stopped at the petrol station along Jalan Sri Pelangi to check his car tyres when he was set upon by his assailants, who arrived in another car.

“One of the men tried to pull the victim into their car but he put up a fight. A commotion ensued, and one of the attackers stabbed him on the left side of his chest, causing him to collapse,” Johor police chief Commissioner Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd told reporters at the scene.

“The suspects also threw a firecracker and ran over the man twice with their car before fleeing.

“A post-mortem has attributed the cause of death as a ‘stab wound t o t he heart’,” Khalil l ater revealed.

A video of the brutal killing, believed to have been taken by a bystander, has since gone viral, with over 30,000 shares on Facebook, as well as countless shares via WhatsApp.

A description of the suspects’ car, with the registration number WB79L, was posted on the Johor police Facebook page.

However, police have found

that the vehicle registration number on the car used by the assailants belonged to another vehicle.

It is understood that the owner of the vehicle with that registration number and his car were in Ipoh at the time of the incident at the petrol station in Johor Baru.

Police have recorded a statement from the man’s wife who was in his car but ran off for help as soon as the attack started.

Anyone with information on the incident can contact the state police hotline at 07-2212999.

Meanwhile, State Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Datuk Azman Ayob urged the public not to spread unverified information about the gruesome murder.

“Any false information spread online may jeopardise investigations into the case. Investigations are ongoing but there has yet to be any arrest.

“We will update the public if there is any new development,” he said.

His comments followed news circulating in social media that police have made several arrests relating to the case, which Azman refuted.
