KUALA LUMPUR: The philanthropic spirit and generosity of the late Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay lives on through his family who donated RM10 million to 103 charitable, educational and non-governmental organisations in his honour.

The highest amount of RM500,000 was donated to his alma mater, Hin Hua High School, Klang, where he had served as the chairman on its board of governors.

The YTL Group held a private memorial event to hand out the cheques to representatives of 28 organisations yesterday.

Among the other recipients were Mercy Malaysia, Malaysian AIDS Foundation, Cancerlink Foundation, Montfort Boys Town, Dignity for Children Foundation, St John Ambulance Malaysia, Breast Cancer Foundation and IJN Foundation.

“My father laid the foundation on which our family is built, inspiring us by his hard work, integrity, business acumen, wisdom and kindness.

“These values inspire us to continue his passion for philanthropy and to serve those in need,” YTL Corporations managing director Tan Sri Francis Yeoh Sock Ping said in a statement. He is also the eldest son of Tiong Lay.

He described his father as a true patriot and contributed to building much of the country’s infrastruc-ture in the early years.

Tiong Lay passed away on Oct 18 at the age of 88. Yesterday was also his birthday. – by Vathani Panirchellvum
