IPOH: Two brothers and two sisters were among 26 couples who registered their marriage with their partners at a mass wedding ceremony on the first day of the new year.

The event was held at the Ipoh Chinese Chin Woo Athletics Association hall.

Factory supervisor Pang Khang Huai, 22, said he will always remember the occasion as it was also his birthday.

“It is a memorable occasion and meaningful day,” he added.

His wife, Irene Y. L. Yew, 24, said they had already held the traditional Chinese wedding ceremony on Nov 11.

“It is a happy occasion. We only came to know that it would be a family affair two weeks ago,” said the accounts clerk.

At the same event, Phang’s sibling, factory manager Khang Yong, 24, married his childhood sweetheart from school, administrative clerk Lee Pooi Yee, 23.

Lee said the registration was initially supposed to be held on Dec 12.

“We had to postpone it due to time factors and coincidentally, our marriage fell on the same day as my husband’s brother’s marriage,” she added.

Her sister, Pooi San, 26, registered her marriage to Lee Siew Loon, 29, a Information Technology technician.

“We wanted the registration on the first day of the New Year to make it special.”
