PETALING JAYA: The stork was kept busy on New Year’s Day as more than 30 babies were born throughout the country.

In KUALA LUMPUR, eight babies were born as of noon yesterday.

“My delivery was smooth although she was delivered seven days early. It was at about 1.12am and she weighs 2.87kg,” said accountant Nurfarahin Abd Jalil, 28, when met at a maternity ward.

Later in the morning, homemaker Nursyaidatul Azwa Samsudin welcomed her son, her first child.

In NEGRI SEMBILAN, 10 New Year Day babies were delivered at the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital in Seremban.

In BUKIT MERTAJAM, a couple welcomed the birth of their first-born two days after their first wedding anniversary.

The 33-year-old wife, Nur Shatila Osman, and her 35-yearold husband Khairul Anuar Zainal Abidin, said they tied the knot on Dec 30, 2016.

Nur Shatila said her due date was on Jan 20, but she went into labour and gave birth to a baby girl at 4.57am.

“I did not expect to give birth to a New Year baby. It is a meaningful present for my husband and me,” she said at the KPJ Specialist Hospital in Bandar Perda yesterday.

In IPOH, the New Year also brought a bundle of joy and happiness to a 26-year-old housewife, Tengku Nor Atirah Tengku Roslan, who delivered twin boys at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

The mother from Bercham and her husband, Hafizal Abu Hassan, already have a boy born on Jan 2, four years ago.

“The twin boys, weighing 2.8kg each, were delivered at 1.30am through normal delivery,” she said.
