Up to RM600 payout under EIS

> Employees who lose jobs this year to receive payment in January 2019

PETALING JAYA: Employees who lose their jobs this year are eligible for interim benefit payments from the Social Security Organisation (Socso) of up to RM600 per month under the recently passed Employment Insurance System Act 2017 (EIS).

Any employee who loses his or her employment is qualified to apply for the payment, subject to provisions of the Act.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot ( pix) said the payments will be for a maximum of three months and qualified recipients are required to participate in a “Re-Employ- ment Placement Programme”.

Workers who lose their jobs between Jan 1 and Dec 31 may apply for the interim benefits through http:// www.perkeso.gov.my or any Socso office or Urban Transformation Centre nationwide, he said in a statement yesterday.

Riot also urged all employers and employees to carry out their responsibilities dutifully as the EIS is a very crucial economic policy in supporting the government’s initiative to improve the quality of life and for the nation to remain competitive.

“Starting in February, employers may register and make contributions through Socso’s “Assist” portal and the first EIS payment will commence in January 2019,” he added.

The EIS, which was passed by the Dewan Rakyat on Dec 17, is to provide private sector workers who lose their jobs with financial assistance and help them find new jobs.

Under the scheme, contributions will be 0.2% of an employee’s monthly salary for both employer and employee.
