Marathon pacer Ang’s future remains uncertain

PETALING JAYA: While others are celebrating the New Year festivities, the prognosis for marathon pacer Evelyn Ang (pix) remains uncertain.

She underwent her fourth surgery successfully yesterday morning to reinsert the external ventricular drain which would relieve elevated intracranial pressure and discharge the excess brain fluid.

“She has brain infection and the surgery went well. The surgeon also tried to treat the infection during surgery other than just inserting the EVD,” a source told theSun.

While there has been some response from Evelyn in the last few days, it still cannot be determined if it was a reflex or a response to her loved ones around her.

“Sometimes she just moved a right leg or hand. Not sure if it is reflex or response to us. Some visitors think it is response but I don’t really know.

“I heard the doctor say, same condition, not much improvement, though her visitors think it is an improvement,” the source said.

It is still not known how the accident would affect Ang and if she would need rehabilitation, and for how long.

“Evelyn survived the ordeal as she was fit,” the source added.

Ang, 44, was among three people hit by a car around 4.30am on Dec 10 in Jalan Kapar Batu 2 during a pace routine for the Klang International City Marathon.

She suffered serious head injuries, including a skull fracture. The other two victims sustained light injuries. – by Vathani Panirchellvum
