Warning on second wave of floods

KUANTAN: Residents living in four Pahang districts have been warned of the possibilit­y of a second wave of floods.

The Meteorolog­ical Department said in a statement heavy rain has been forecasted in Kuantan, Pekan, Rompin and Maran.

“Residents living in low-lying areas or whose homes were flooded should be prepared for the possibilit­y of a second wave of floods.”

Pahang saw an increase in the number of evacuees yesterday afternoon while the number remained unchanged in Johor.

Pahang Civil Defence Force director Kol Zainal Yusof said 426 evacuees are housed at eight relief centres in the afternoon compared to 379 in the morning.

In Pekan, 281 people are at five relief centres, namely SK Temai (122), Kampung Pulau Manis relief centre (75), Kampung Tanjung Pulai community hall (39), SK Acheh (34) and Kampung Tebat community hall (11).

In Raub, 107 victims are being sheltered at the Semai Bakti hall of Felda Tersang 2 (43) and Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob hall (64).

In Maran, 38 evacuees are at the Kampung Baru Pertanian community hall, while 51 flood victims housed earlier at SK Chegar Perah in Lipis were allowed to return home.

In JOHOR, 17 people from six families remained at two flood evacuation centres in Segamat as of yesterday morning.
