Lew added that they needed to create content that could also compete on a global scale.

“We needed to make content that was globally appealing. Why make something if we can’t sell it?”

In the channel’s second year, its original production Go Fast or Go Home was nominated for the Asian Television Awards.

At that point, the executives realised they could create content that was on par with productions by major international channels.

Edwin explained: “We are always thinking of new concepts and new ideas [and] looking to do new shows, and [even] considering extending old shows.” Edwin said they hope to do co-productions with the BBC and National Geographic Channel, as well as produce more documentaries. GoAsean is also set to introduce four new shows. These include new original series Scuba Love, in which host Isabella Glanznig explores the pristine blue waters off the Johor coast; We are Family, the channel’s first Mandarinlanguage show featuring fun, family-friendly activities in Malaysia; and the adventure series Go Explore, hosted by Hannah Tan, a collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas). There will also be a new season of Go Travel. GoAsean’s shows can be viewed on video-streaming service tonton, and video-on-demand service dimsum. Some of its programmes are also licensed to Discovery Asia (Astro channel 571).
