PETALING JAYA: Two senior officers of a company involved in the RM6.3 billion Penang undersea tunnel project were remanded for six days from yesterday to assist in investigations into the project.

In PUTRAJAYA, the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission (MACC) obtained a six-day remand order against a senior executive director of Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd.

Magistrate Fatima Amyra Abdul Jalil granted the remand against the 59-year-old Datuk to be held by the MACC until Jan 16.

The suspect arrived at the Palace of Justice at 9.45am yesterday.

It is learnt he was detained at the MACC’s headquarters at 8.45pm on Tuesday.

The controversial project seems to be in trouble after MACC raided the offices of the companies and consultants involved in the project on Tuesday, leading to two company directors being detained.

In GEORGE TOWN, the magistrate’s court granted a six-day remand order against a company managing director with a Datuk title to assist in investigations into the proposed project.

The remand order was obtained from assistant registrar Muhammad Azam Md Eusoff against the 49-year-old who arrived in court at about 11.40am.

Clad in an orange MACC lock-up suit, the Datuk was whisked away by MACC officers to a waiting car outside the court.
