RM3mil for police retirees fund
> Allocation is govt’s show of appreciation for contributions of former cops, says Najib
KUALA LUMPUR: The government will allocate a total of RM3 million to “Tabung Amanah Warisan Polis” over a period of three years, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
He said the allocation was to show the government’s appreciation to policemen for their contributions.
“Our country will never reach its current height if not for the sacrifices made by all of you,” he said at the Police Retirees Assembly in Putra World Trade Centre yesterday.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.
Najib also announced several government initiatives to assist the 123,000 police retirees nationwide.
Among them was a special haj programme for police retirees, which would depend on the quota granted to Malaysia by Saudi Arabia.
Najib said some of the affordable houses under the civil servants housing project would also be reserved for retired police personnel.
He also announced that the police veterans welfare division would be restructured, with a branch opened in every state.
In calling on the veterans to support the government, he said: “Don’t stop your struggle, you must contribute to the country’s future.”
