Robbers killed in shoot-out
MALACCA: Two robbers with eight criminal records were killed in a shoot-out with the Special Task Force On Organised Crime at Jalan Gangsa, Batu Berendam in Alor Gajah yesterday.
The drama unfolded when the duo, believed to be a local and a foreigner were acting suspiciously in a car in Taman Seri Bayan.
Sources said the two were roaming around Taman Seri Bayan at 12.45pm when policemen from the elite team approached them.
The men were ordered to stop their vehicle and surrender for a thorough check on their vehicle.
Instead, they started firing at the team of policemen, forcing them to return fire.
The two suspects, believed to be in their 40s, were killed in the shoot-out.
Alor Gajah district police chief Supt A. Asmadi Abd Aziz said after the shoot-out, police found the duo dead in their car.
“Police also found a pistol and three live bullets in the car,” he said at the scene.
Asmadi added the suspects had eight criminal offences – four in Shah Alam, two in Kuala Lumpur and two in Johor.
“Investigators are in the midst of ascertaining more details on their backgrounds. Even before the shootout, our preliminary investigations revealed that the two were targeting victims and hotspots for their next robbery.
“We believe they targeted victims who withdrew cash from banks and that’s basically their modus operandi.”
Their bodies were sent to the Malacca Hospital for a post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code.
