Learning by giving
FIRST City University College’s (FCUC) student affairs and service department organised a charity bazaar in view of the “season of giving”.
Sources from the university said that the bazaar garnered positive response and was well supported by the staff and students of the university.
According to FCUC’s Student Affairs and Service Department (SASD) head, Florence Kuek, proceeds from the bazaar were used to purchase school supplies and bed linen for underprivileged children of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary Kuala Lumpur.
It was learnt that the university has been a benefactor of the welfare home, which houses about 80 children aged between eight and 19, since 2013.
FCUC staff and students are regularly engaged in community work and philanthropic activities.
One such initiative is a project it took up with the Bandar Utama community, where the university students helped design the BU2 Resident Association (BURA2) guard house to help improve security.
Kuek said the university believes that activities like these not only complement its cultivation of education and pedagogy but also provide students with a wholesome education that also prepares them to face the world and inculcates better understanding about the larger community.
FCUC offers a host of courses and programmes on Computing, Design & Built Environment, Engineering as well as Business Studies. Registration for its January intake is open. Fee waivers and scholarships are attainable.
