With the aim to help students develop an in-depth understanding of international business environments, the course will introduce leading perspectives in analysing business-related events and management issues.
Through independent research, presentation and case study, students will acquire the skills needed to gather relevant data for analysis together with the competencies necessary to effectively communicate their decisions.
“I realised that being a science student, business was very foreign to me. I didn’t understand business concepts and how the real world works. I was even struggling to understand the value of money,” shared MIB graduate Melody Ang, who is currently pursuing her PhD at Monash Malaysia.
“It was also a slow realisation for me that the working world is far more complicated, and to survive, it’s better to be equipped with some business knowledge. Thus, began my MIB journey.”
MIB graduate Charles Tan, who currently works in Petronas devising international growth strategies, said, “MIB’s focus on global issues trains students to recognise signposts and scenario planning, all of which are important elements in international business.”
The programme also has a study tour component that gives students a real-world experience of processes within multinationals and global markets.
“The opportunity to go on a study trip to Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Shanghai was priceless, it allowed me to see the world’s second biggest economy for myself,” Charles said.
With many MIB programmes in the market, the Monash MIB provides students with an edge; it gives them an alternative pathway to pursue research careers.
The course syllabus is embedded with a research component every semester.
Successful completion of this pathway will qualify students to apply for admission into a PhD programme.
