Poh Huat furniture unit assessing impact from fire at factory in Muar

-

PETALING JAYA: Poh Huat Resources Holdings Bhd said a fire occurred at one of the five factory buildings in Muar, Johor, belonging to Poh Huat Furniture Industries (M) Sdn Bhd (PHFI), the group’s main local operating subsidiary.

The factory’s loading and assembly areas were affected.

There was minimal impact in other production areas in the building. The fire started between 1am and 1.30am on Sunday (Jan 21) and was put out at about 2.30am.

“The damage sustained from the fire is restricted to the building mentioned. Other production facilities at the Bukit Pasir, Muar, were not affected and production activities are running as normal,” it said in a stock exchange filing.

Poh Huat said the estimated value of the destroyed areas will be ascertained, adding that all the assets, materials and finished goods are sufficiently insured.

“PHFI is now assessing the operational and financial impact arising from the incident including seeking alternative manufacturing/ warehousing arrangements to mitigate the interruption caused by the fire. An appropriate announcement will be made once the actual losses are ascertained and mitigating measures put in place,” it said.

In 2015, a fire occurred at Poh Huat’s factory building and warehouse in Vietnam. The total net book value of the damaged factory buildings together with the plant and machinery was RM2.89 million, while stocks worth RM6.12 million were damaged.
