Kaia Gerber turns designer
SHE is still fresh off her firstever catwalk season, but model Kaia Gerber is reportedly already turning her hand to fashion design.
The budding supermodel has teamed up with fashion magnate Karl Lagerfeld on a capsule collection for the designer’s eponymous clothing brand, WWD reports.
Set to go on sale in September, the collection will be dubbed “Karl Lagerfeld x Kaia”, and will feature both ready-to-wear pieces and Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). Embodying PADI’s iconic characteristics of red and blue colours on the dial and bezel, the special edition SPB071J1 is designed to boast utmost legibility even at 200m under the ocean where sunlight does accessories inspired by the teenager’s personal style.
“We have been working intensely over the last months with Kaia in L.A. and at our studio in Paris,” chief executive officer of Karl Lagerfeld Pier Paolo Righi told WWD. “It was exciting to see her clear vision, passion and engagement, and the collection will definitely inspire many young women.”
Lagerfeld has been a major champion of 16-yearold Gerber’s modelling debut, giving the breakout star the ultimate seal of approval when he chose her to open his Chanel Spring/ Summer 2018 ready-to-wear show back in October.
The news marks a strong start to 2018 for the star, who was also unveiled as one of the new faces of Calvin Klein, alongside big brother Presley, earlier this month.
In signing her own major fashion collaboration, Gerber follows in the footsteps of fellow modelling star Gigi
