No record of Amri’s travels

> Immigration says missing activist did not use passport to cross border into Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR: There are no immigration records showing that missing activist Amri Che Mat travelled across the border on the dates his wife claimed he was in Thailand.

Police observer ACP R. Munusamy said the Immigration Department did not have any records of Amri crossing the border on Nov 21, 2016 and returning home on Nov 24, the day he went missing.

“There are no records of him leaving the country on the mentioned dates. It is not in the Immigration records, this shows that he does not need a passport to leave the country,” he said at the inquiry held at Suhakam’s headquarters in Menara TH yesterday.

“I am not sure as his passport is still with me. It’s at home,” said Amri’s wife Norhayati Ariffin ( pix) when asked to produce the passport at the inquiry.

Norhayati also said she did not know where her children are studying.

The couple have four children of their own and four adopted children.

Most of them were educated in Thailand and continued their education in Iran to study the Persian language.

“When he (Amri) went missing, our adopted children were studying in Thailand. I am not sure which part of Thailand.

“It is a private school, a normal private school that has both religious and academic studies. I am not sure of the school’s name as Amri would send them or they would take their own transport,” she said.

This prompted Suhakam commissioner Datuk Mah Weng Kwai to ask how a mother, who also works as a teacher, has no knowledge of her children’s school.

“How is it that you don’t know? You are also a teacher. You don’t know or you don’t want to mention?” he said.

Norhayati said she did not know and had only gone to the school once in five years.

Munusamy said the private school was run by Amri’s friend Mohidul Domlux, also known as Din, who works for the Interior Ministry of Thailand.

The inquiry was chaired by Mah and assisted by commissioners Prof Datuk Dr Aishah Bidin and Dr Nik Salida Suhaila Nik Salleh.
