These ions deactivate airborne contaminants by getting attached to them in order to extract a hydrogen compound that breaks down the protein membrane. The resulting water molecules are then returned to the air. Alongside suppressing airborne viruses and bacteria, the PCI controls the proliferation of mould, unpleasant odour and allergens such as dust mites and its faeces.
