PETALING JAYA: A man’s 21st birthday celebration was marred when two guests, who are siblings, were murdered in a misunderstanding at the party at an apartment in Section 19 here yesterday.

The brothers, aged 36 and 44, suffered multiple slash wounds during a brawl with several men, including the father of the man who celebrated his birthday in the 2am incident at the carpark of the Damansara Bistari apartments.

Police arrested seven men and a woman aged between 30 and 50 soon after the incident.

It is learnt that the birthday party on Saturday, which was attended by about 50 guests, including the victims who were friends of the birthday boy’s father, ended before midnight.

However, about half the guests stayed on and binged on alcoholic drinks served at the party that was held under a tent put up at the carpark.

Petaling Jaya deputy police chief Supt Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said yesterday that initial investigations revealed that a group of youngsters on motorcycles had created a disturbance by revving the engines of the machines and this angered the host and his guests.

“The guests confronted the bikers but the siblings emerged and defended the bikers. This led to a heated argument between the siblings and the other guests. The siblings, who live nearby, left the place but returned later armed with machetes and confronted the other guests before they clashed. The fight resulted in the death of both brothers, who suffered injuries caused by sharp weapons.”

Ku Mashariman said the detained woman, whose husband was among those arrested, is expected to be released on bail while a remand order to detain the seven men would be sought.
