MCKL’s celebrated students

A CROWD of over 500 convened at the Dream Centre in Petaling Jaya recently to celebrate the Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) Graduation and Awards Ceremony.

The event granted certificat­es, degrees and awards to students of the Cambridge A-Level (CAL), Australian Matriculat­ion (Ausmat) and Diploma in Early Chilhood Education (DECE) programmes.

Monash University Malaysia president and pro vice-chancellor Prof Andrew Walker was the guest of honour.

While the Ausmat programme saw 32 students scoring ATAR of 90 and above – its top student Kelvin Chan surpassed the mark with an ATAR score of 99.

The Cambridge A-Level programme saw 262 students certified with 38.4% obtaining 3As and above. The college’s homegrown programme, the Diploma in Early Childhood Education, witnessed 17 students receiving their diploma scrolls. Denise Thean came out tops with a CGPA of 3.93. She was presented with the Datuk Dr Chiam Heng Keng Award.

MCKL’s first blind graduate Celine Lean shared about the difficulti­es she faced finding a college that would accept her visual impairment. She sang praises for MCKL, her lecturers, faculty staff and her fellow students.

Celine excelled in her Cambridge A-Level exams, winning the Outstandin­g Cambridge Learner Award for scoring top marks in Malaysia for the AS Law paper. She was also presented with the Most Inspiring Student Award for 2017.

The determined young lady has gained admission into the University of Cambridge in UK to read a law degree.
