JOHOR BARU: Police probe into an alleged gang-rape incident involving army personnel from Mahkota Camp in Kluang is still ongoing

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said this when responding to questions from reporters at the Johor state police headquarters yesterday.

“The victim of the alleged crime is already nine weeks pregnant.”

Mohd Khalil added nine suspects allegedly gang raped the sales girl, 17, at a hotel in Kluang in mid-December last year.

The victim lodged a police report on Feb 22. Nine army personnel, aged between 19 and 24, all from Mahkota Camp in Kluang, were hauled up to Kluang police station at about 8.50pm on Feb 22 and were remanded till March 1.

Sources said one of the army personnel was the lover of the girl and was believed to be involved in the gang rape.

On the day of the incident, they had gone out on a date and later checked into a room at the hotel.

Soon after, eight men came into the room and forced the girl to have sex with them.

The ordeal lasted about two hours till 6pm. The victim lodged the police report as she was angry with her boyfriend’s action.

Police said the case is being investigated under Section 375B of the Penal Code for gang rape, which carries imprisonment for a term of not fewer than 10 years and not more than 30 years. Kluang district police Criminal Investigations Department’s sexual crimes unit and Mahkota Camp’s military police corps’ special investigations branch are jointly investigating the case.
