Arsenic poisoning

The pundit is concerned that things could go from bad to worse unless the French manager can inspire a strong response from his side.

“I think if they concede a goal on Thursday it could be a very difficult, horrible game for Arsene Wenger and those players,” he told Sky Sports.

“We saw it last season, it was unpleasant when the protestations were going on leading up to the game, the marches from the fans, the banners.

“I didn’t enjoy it, I thought Arsene deserves better than that. But I can see it coming again this Thursday.”

Neville played against some of the best Arsenal sides in Premier League history back in the 2000s.

And he says there’s barely any comparison between the sides which contained the likes of Patrick Vieira and Thierry to the team at the moment.

“The standard of an Arsene Wenger team is slipping, because in my mind I think of it initially in the first 10 years as being a strong, powerful, aggressive, counterattacking team, but could also play good football,”

“In the middle part, it was wonderful combinations of football. Now, I’ve not seen anything. I’ve not seen power, counter-attacking or wonderful combinations of football and that’s really difficult to take.”

The next three games are probably the most crucial matches in his career – City at home in the League tomorrow, a trip to Brighton on Sunday, then the first leg of their last 16 Europa League tie against AC Milan four days after that.

Three defeats and surely the Arsenal board will finally say enough is enough and bow to the fans’ demands for the axe to fall.

And according to The Daily Mail, a four-man shortlist has been drawn up for potential replacements with Germany international boss Joachim Low at the top of the list.

Celtic and former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is also wanted, alongside Monaco’s Leonardo Jardim and Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta.

But Arsenal legend Ian Wright would rather the club search for someone much younger.

“The club need to start looking for somebody who is not old,” Wright told BBC Sport.

“They are talking about Ancelotti, but they need to find the next one like Mauricio (Pochettino), who built his way up.” – Express Newspapers
