Theme park not affected

IPOH: The operations of Asia’s first Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) here and its long-term plans will not be affected although one of its shareholders, Daya Sejahtera Sdn Bhd, reportedly received a liquidation order from the High Court.

Perak State Development Corporation deputy chief executive (business operations) Rustam Apandi Jamaludin yesterday said Daya Sejahtera – formerly known as The Sanderson Design Group (M) Sdn Bhd – only owned a small amount of shares.

He pointed out that 51% of MAPS shares were owned by Perak Corporation Berhad, which is a subsidiary of state development agency PKNP, and 34% by RSG MAPS. The remainder is owned by an individual.

“Daya Sejahtera was our turnkey contractor, and they had the job of constructing the theme park and delivering it. If they close down, it has nothing to do with MAPS.”

Rustam was commenting on a statement by Perak DAP adviser Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham that the project will be a white elephant due to the liquidation.

“We are improving the facilities and adding boat and roller coaster rides, and water and forest theme parks,” he said.

Meanwhile, MAPS chief operating officer Mohd Farid Abdul Aziz said the new attractions and facilities have been completed and can be operated at any time.

“However, the attractions at the Dream Zone are undergoing technical review and if everything goes well it will be opened to the public in June,” he said. – by P. Chandra Sagaran
