NEW Balance celebrates 30 years of their quintessential NB 574 silhouette, whose legacy spans generations, revitalised by the independent spirit within each era.
The timeless classic has grown exponentially since its debut in 1988. While it continues to be unaffected by trends, the shoe has undergone many updated interpretations over the years – it remains a style fixture in the realm of streetwear.
Celebrating its 30 years of storied heritage, New Balance is introducing the Legacy of Grey collection. The men’s Legacy of Grey pack takes inspiration from two of the most legendary grey styles from the New Balance 99X and 1000 series – the original 990 and the 1300JP.
In 1982, the New Balance 990 changed the footwear industry by introducing the first US$100 running silhouette; a shift from bright neons and pops of colours to a classic grey suede has then become a colour synonymous with the brand.
The 1300JP is a standout amongst the many New Balance styles and is re-introduced every five years. The style was introduced in 1985 as a specialised running shoe and adulated by sprinters for its unri- valled cushioning, unique grey colour and authentic silhouette.
As part of New Balance’s Grey Day celebration, the footwear brand has collaborated with two independent artists who showcase the spirit of true independence and individuality. Fashion photographer, Vincent Paul Yong and tattoo artist, Annie have created their very own rendition of the emblematic “N” logo.
The New Balance 574 in the 990 and 1300JP grey colourways is available at all JD stores nationwide.
