Public at heart of govt policies, says Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: The public is at the heart of government policies and priorities, with the help of multi-national corporations (MNCs), public life is being impacted via innovation, transfer of knowledge and upskilling, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.

He said this has been achieved through the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) which managed to attract MNCs to invest here.

“As part of the ETP, the government had set up InvestKL in 2011 and it had managed to attract 73 top MNCs up to last year with over RM11 billion in approved and committed investments, and had created close to 11,000 high value jobs.

“Attracting Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) does not mean the selling of sovereignty as certain people had been claiming,” he said.

Najib said the diverse nature of FDI coming into the country clearly illustrates the attractiveness of the nation’s ecosystem and the ability of talented Malaysians to be at the forefront of Industry 4.0 and digitalisation.

He said in an effort to create a better future for Malaysians as well as enhancing the attractiveness of Kuala Lumpur as a hub, the government is committed to remaining futurefocused, with the digital economy being a key part of the national agenda.

“By taking advantage of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the country stands to reap huge benefits as it has the potential to create the world’s largest platform for economic cooperation,” Najib said at the launch of the Malaysia Global Talent programme. – by Rajvinder Singh
