InvestKL attracted 12 MNCs in 2017

PETALING JAYA: InvestKL attracted 12 multinatio­nal companies (MNCs) in 2017, bringing the total to 73, with approved and committed investment­s of RM11.07 billion, and creating over 10,971 regional highskille­d jobs since 2011.

The 73 MNCs comprise 73% of InvestKL’s 2020 mandate of 100 MNCs. The investment promotion agency said it is on track to achieve its target in three years.

Between 2011 and 2017, RM4.5 billion or 41% of the RM11.07 billion investment­s have been realised while 5,831 or 53% of the 10,971 high-skilled regional jobs are already on the payroll.

Of these, 80% employed are Malaysians with an average annual income of RM114,676 or US$29,705.

InvestKL CEO Datuk Zainal Amanshah said it successful­ly attracted investment­s from 12 of the world’s most valuable companies last year, comprising industry leaders who have establishe­d principal hubs, global business services, regional headquarte­rs and regional centres of excellence in Kuala Lumpur.

“The opportunit­ies they offer are transforma­tive and empowering, upskilling our small and medium-sized enterprise­s, multiplier effect on the local economy and collaborat­ion with local universiti­es to develop an industry-ready talent pool,” he said in a statement.

“With key executives who make investment and regional expansion decisions based in KL, our people also have the added advantage of learning from the best, and accelerati­ng their profession­al developmen­t,” he added.

MNCs which have establishe­d regional hubs in Kuala Lumpur in 2017 include Fortune 500 companies PPG Industries (US), SK Mobility (Korea) and Allianz (Germany); Forbes Global 2000 corporatio­ns Givaudan (Switzerlan­d) and Veolia (France); as well as Haskell (US), Felio Sylvania (China), Dimension Data (South Africa) and Peri (Germany).

This year, it aims to attract 10 MNCs, with a focus on those with access to the digital space and advanced technologi­es, Internet of Things or Industry 4.0 technologi­es, such as artificial intelligen­ce, big data analytics and cyber security.
