Malaysian divers and gymnasts delivers

THE six-day wait by the national contingent for a gold medal finally ended and Negaraku was heard in the Optus Aquatic Centre yesterday.

The pair of Cheong Jun Hoong-Pandelela Rinong displayed focused and consistent performanc­e to bag Malaysia’s third gold medal in the 10m synchronis­ed platform when they collected 328.08 points after five jumps.

Sharing their success were national divers Leong Mun YeeNur Dhabitah Sabri who claimed the bronze medal in the event with 308.16 points, their second bronze so far.

“We are happy that our strategy for synchronis­ed jumps went on well as we have done it during practice.

“Luckily the weather is not so windy. We just concentrat­e on our jumps until the end,” said Pandelela.

Malaysia’s gymnasts put up a scintillat­ing performanc­e to improve their achievemen­t in the Commonweal­th Games after garnering a silver medal yesterday.

Malaysia represente­d by Amy Kwan Dict Weng and Koi Sie Yan as well as young gymnast, Izzah Amzan collected 127.950 points to take the second place at Coomera Indoor Sports Centre.

“We succeeded in winning a silver medal as our performanc­e has improved from the Glasgow Games when Malaysia won a bronze medal.

”For the competitio­n today, we put up our best display until the last second even though there were mistakes here and there,” said Amy Kwan. – Bernama
