UTC for Bentong if BN wins
> Liow: It’s my pledge to residents
BENTONG: An Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) will be set up here if the mandate to rule the country is returned to the Barisan Nasional (BN), said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
Liow, who is also MCA president, said the matter, requested by the local community, has been extended to the government for further action.
“In my meetthe-people sessions, I often received requests for a UTC be established in Bentong for the people’s convenience.
“I have made applications to the relevant parties and have received positive feedback,” he told reporters after launching the NBOS Friendly Fiesta at the Federal Religious Secondary School.
Liow, who is incumbent for the Bentong parliamentary seat, pledged that he would make the UTC’s opening a reality and part of his promises to Bentong residents.
Apart from providing various services by the government and private sector, he said the proposed UTC would also generate job opportunities.
The government had saved up to RM2 billion to date, in terms of development expenditure, through the opening of 21 centres nationwide, he said.
On another note, Liow urged any BN component party intending to contest in the Wangsa Maju and Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituencies not to discuss the matter openly, especially in the media.
He said this was because seat allocation, including these two seats were being jointly decided through negotiations involving the BN top leadership.
The issue has arisen following a report that stated the MCA wanted the Wangsa Maju seat back after it was loaned to Umno in GE13.
