Prep for parenthood
THE road to parenthood, though challenging, can be fun and exciting if one is prepared. On this note, Pantai Hospital Cheras (PHC) organised a “Mom & Dad To Be” event at the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur, aimed at preparing new parents.
From prenatal to postnatal, the agenda of the day comprised talks and workshops conducted by specialists involved in the process of pregnancy and childbirth.
These included obstetricians, gynaecologists, paediatricians and nutritionists, including the very important nurses. The event found favour with the participating 30 couples.
Beginning with a talk by dietician and former Malaysian Dietitians Association president Indra Balaratnam, followed by another from PHC resident obstetrics and gynaecologist (O&G) specialist Dr Eee Ching Woo. Popular actress and mum of four Lavin Seow was also involved, invited to share tips and insights on maintaining a fit and healthy body after delivery. Her advice: “exercise and eat well”. Speaking on common feeding problems in babies was PHC resident paediatrician specialist Dr Yeoh Seen Hun who advised parents to be attentive when feeding their babies as they often regurgitate during feeds.
A breastfeeding workshop and baby massage demonstration was carried out by the head of the PHC maternity ward and her team of nurses.
Before the programme drew to a close, a lucky draw ensued, which saw participants taking home exciting prizes.
Since refurbishment of its maternity and paediatric wards, Pantai Hospital Cheras now boasts a 21-bed maternity ward and a 29-bed paediatric ward, which supports its objective to provide better services and increase comfort levels for mothers and babies during their stay.
