50 protest against Tun M using PKR logo
SEBERANG JAYA: About 50 people staged a demonstration in front of the state PKR headquarters here yesterday to voice their objection to Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad using PKR’s logo in the 14th general election (GE14).
The group spokesman, A. Loganathan, said the protest was to let the party leadership know how PKR grassroots members felt.
He claimed there were about 11,500 Indian PKR members in Penang who were against it.
“The logo symbolises the party’s fight against tyranny. Now we allow him to use it?” he asked.
Also present during the protest were Penang Front Party Datuk Patrick Ooi and party members.
PKR Permatang Pauh election machinery security director Talib Rahman said he had lodged a police report against the protest to protect the party from sabotage.
“The protest had nothing to do with PKR, they are not party members,” he said.
Earlier, PKR Youth claimed certain quarters from Umno were using former PKR members to sabotage PH’s preparations for GE14.
Describing them as agent provocateurs, PKR deputy youth chief Dr Afif Bahardin said the youth wing was not involved.
“The claim that there are some party grassroots objecting the decision is no more than a political ploy engineered and sponsored by Umno-Barisan Nasional,” Afif said. – by Imran Hilmy
