> Malay voters in DBKL flats feel afraid to come out and show support, says Kamaruddin

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR’s Bandar Tun Razak candidate Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar (pix) says Malay voters in DBKL flats are fearful of supporting the Opposition.

The incumbent Tumpat MP said even though the situation can be seen as a challenge to him, a simple approach by personally interacting with voters is the best recipe to win votes in the Bandar Tun Razak (BTR) parliamentary seat.

“I don’t see a major challenge. However, we are facing Malay voters who are staying in City Hall (DBKL) flats. They feel afraid to come out and show support openly.

“The fear factor is visible and of course if the Malay voters do not support us, we know that they have been taken care of by the Umno machinery,” he told theSun in an exclusive interview yesterday.

However, Kamaruddin pointed out that not all Malay voters are showing the “muted” type of support.

“Malay voters at other areas such as Kampung Malaysia, which is the Bandar Tun Razak Umno division chief Datuk Rizalman Mokhtar’s place are very welcoming. I feel fairly confident with what I’m doing. I am doing my best to coax the people to cast their ballot for me on May 9,” he said.

Kamaruddin also pointed out that he has no time to spare for those who shun him as it is more important for him to make the rounds in BTR and introduce himself and his offer to the constituents.

He is confident his experience in Tumpat as MP for four terms will give him an edge over his rivals.

Bandar Tun Razak will see a threecornered fight with Kamaruddin facing Dr Rosni Adam of PAS and Barisan Nasional’s Adnan Seman Abdullah.
