‘BN can win in Sabah’

> Victory possible if all component parties support BN candidates unconditionally, says Najib

-

KOTA MARUDU: Caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak said Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) can win if all component parties showed solidarity regardless of who the candidates are.

The BN chairman said the party machinery in Sabah should continue to work hard to achieve a clean sweep tomorrow, Bernama reported.

“I made a visit to Keningau, before meeting the people in Beaufort and later with the people in Kota Marudu. I saw a very encouraging and conducive atmosphere. This is a positive sign for BN.

“I don’t see any reason BN cannot win, on condition all component parties jointly support whoever are contesting as candidates, because they are BN candidates.

“There is a place (seat) for PBS candidates, a place for Umno candidates and also places for other (component) parties. Most importantly, BN must win and form the government,” he said after a meet-the-people session here yesterday.

Also present were Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, who is also PBS president and BN candidate for the Tambunan state seat, PBS deputy president Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili, who is BN candidate for the Kota Marudu parliamentary seat, BN candidate for the Tandek state seat, Datuk Anita Baranting and BN candidate for the Matunggong state seat, Julita Majunki. Earlier in BEAUFORT, Najib reminded the people, especially those in Sabah, to reject the opposition parties, saying it will be futile to elect parties formed merely to further personal agendas. He said the people should give BN the mandate instead because the coalition’s struggle was clearly in the people’s interests. Najib said it was needless to elect the political pact led by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad because he was a “recycled” leader and had not done much for Sabahans when he was the prime minister for 22 years.
