Daim: I am the most corrupt person here?

- BY G. SURACH

KLANG: Former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin ( pix) has rubbished Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin’s assertions that he was the most corrupt person in the country.

“I have been investigated many times by various agencies. I have even been cleared by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) (which was not reported),” he told reporters after a teh-tarik session with the people at Klang parliamentarian candidate Charles Santiago’s operations centre in Bayu Tinggi, yesterday.

“MACC and even Umno has cleared my name of any corruption, but what about some of them who have been found with irregularities? How is it that those found guilty by Umno can say such things about me?

Also present were Charles, PKR’s Bandar Baru Klang candidate Datuk Teng Chang Khim, Pandamaran candidate Tony Leong Tuck Chee and Pelabuhan Klang candidate Azmizam Zaman Huri.

He was responding to Khairy who had cited an old statement by PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim dubbing Daim as the nation’s most corrupt person.

On March 17, 2009, Khairy was let off by the Umno Disciplinary Board with a warning when he was found guilty for breaching party ethics on money politics, according to Bernama.

Daim also cited former Malacca and Negri Sembilan chief ministers Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam and Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad as those who were found guilty of corruption within Umno during party polls.

On another matter, Daim asked a reporter while showing theSun’s Monday frontpage: “If there is no impact from my sacking. Then why is it on the front page?”

Daim said Pakatan Harapan (PH) stood a very strong chance of winning the polls as long as the elections were conducted in a clean and fair manner.

“Have you seen the crowd in Malacca , Johor and Putrajaya? Our voters know the truth about the strong turnout despite the media reporting varying amounts,” he added.
