INDUSTRY 4.0 is quite the talk of the town and it comes as no surprise as mechatronics, a word related to it, has also become a common phrase in today’s vocabulary.

Mechatronics, in general, can be considered the hinge on which innovation rests, and it is bringing huge advancements in technology to drive the Industry 4.0 “smart factory” revolution.

The knowledge in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, control engineering and computer science come together in mechatronicautomation. It is the interface of the future and those with qualification in mechatronics have huge opportunities to create the future.

Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC), one of the nation’s renowned institutions of higher learning, provides courses in mechatronics at both diploma and degree levels. Programmes are created to equip students with engineering knowledge on proper application and principles of mechatronics engineering to solve complex engineering problems within its field. Students are taught to: * Design and develop solutions for the future. * Apply technical expertise through laboratoryand project-based activities.

* Carry out research work to come up with engineering techniques and procedures to solve complex engineering problems, and more.

Besides knowledge on mechatronics, students learn a variety of useful social skills as members of an academic society that organises activities that help one pick up fund raising and event management know-how and visits to corporate companies, besides develop social skills among students with similar interest in mechatronics.

A student, Shawn, who enjoys attending workshops and talks on mechatronics, besides participating in competitions like the Robotics Championship, he is already gearing up for the “TAR UC Survival Game: Apocalypse”, where he is in charge of publicity and marketing. “In a nutshell, the society brings together students to share their knowledge and interests with one another,” he said.
