Task force to probe 1MDB

PETALING JAYA: The Prime Minister’s Office has announced in a statement that a special task force will be formed specifically for investigations into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
The task force will be coheaded by a panel of four comprising former attorney- general Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail and former MalaysianAnti Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Comm Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed, current MACC chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull and former Special Branch deputy director DCP Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador.
All four had played significant roles in investigations related to 1MDB during Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak’s administration, before they resigned or were either transferred or replaced.
The statement said the task force will be supported by agencies such as MACC, the Attorney-General’s Chambers, police, Bank Negara Malaysia as well as several lawyers with expertise related to the probe.
It added that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had agreed to the formation of the task force, which will track and seize assets, and prosecute individuals involved in crimes linked to 1MDB.
“The task force will be responsible in all coordination aspects of the investigations, financial tracking and asset recovery (including) 1MDB funds that are stored or invested locally and abroad.
The special task force will also establish cooperation with international enforcement agencies, including those in the US, Switzerland, Singapore and Canada.
