Stars shuttle in to raise RM500,000 for spastic children
PETALING JAYA: Local artistes have come forward to raise RM500,000 for children with cerebral palsy through a badminton charity programme.
The Forever Grand Asia Celebrity Charity Badminton (GACC) Sdn Bhd has brought together local and international celebrities for a charitable cause through friendly matches.
Celebrities like David Kong, Jeffery Ooi, Andy Loke and Jack Ju, who play badminton for leisure, will take part in a tournament to contribute to the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territory building development projects.
The tournament, scheduled for July 14, will see friendly matches between local singers and models.
“For some of us, this is our first time participating in a sports charity event. It is common for singers to participate in a charity concert or stage shows, but it is fun to contribute to the community through sports,” Kong said.
Loke, who said this is the second time he is playing badminton for charity, wants more celebrities to join in the fun for a good cause.
First-timer Ooi said he was looking forward to the friendly matches “because we usually play badminton as a hobby but now we are turning hobby into a charity”.
Kong urged all the fans of the respective celebrities to come forward and support this charity, which will benefit children born with cerebral palsy.
Understanding the specific needs of these children with this condition, Forever GACC founder Poris Lee said this fundraising tournament and gala will help with the reconstruction of the spastic children’s association building.
“We hope to raise half a million. But the support has not been very encouraging so far. We need more people to come forward to support this good cause.”
