Anti-Corruption Commission head says sorry to Dzulkifli over public spat

-

PETALING JAYA: The purported public spat between newly appointed Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull and his predecessor Tan Seri Dzulkifli Ahmad has been put to rest after Shukri apologised to Dzulkifli yesterday.

According to a statement released by Dzulkifli, Shukri had sent him an apology via text.

“I am deeply touched and want to inform that Shukri had sent me a text this morning, and being the kindhearted person he is, he apologised to me about the comments he had made about me at the press conference yesterday.”

He said he is grateful to accept Shukri’s apology and added that the issue had been put to rest.

Shukri had said yesterday that he did not want to serve under Dzulkifli at the MACC because of certain issues.

“I retired early in October 2016 because I didn’t want to serve under him. As a deputy public prosecutor (before becoming MACC chief) he should have advised the MACC on further evidence to be collected, not protect wrongdoers,” Shukri had said.

Dzulkifli refuted Shukri’s claims by stating that in his 25 years as a public servant, he had carried out his duties with utmost responsibility, professionalism and a very high level of commitment.

He said that Shukri’s statement about him was a major accusation against him and his character and he would not take that lightly. – by Timothy Achariam
