> Melaka-Manipal Medical College offers quality education with intense training

-

THE founder of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (simply known as Manipal), Dr Tonse Madhav Ananth Pai considers health and education to be the twin pillars of a vigorous society, hence, since the establishment of India’s first private medical institution in 1953, the iconic Kasturba Medical College has been on an incredible journey of excellence in education and healthcare.

With that, scores of Malaysians have flocked to Manipal to pursue quality medical education since the 1960s, leading to the belief that one in every five to six doctors is a Manipal alumnus.

Today, Melaka-Manipal Medical College, Manipal’s branch campus in Malaysia, thrives and remains among the top ranks among medical education providers for the past two decades.

Manipal’s well-earned reputation was the determining factor for the set up of a medical school in Malaysia; Melaka-Manipal has not looked back since its inception in 1997. Specialising in medical education, Melaka Manipal offers the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS).

The MBBS and BDS are designed to offer a complete medical education comprising the highly reputable Indian methods of teaching with the intense training in Malaysia.

Students first complete their pre-clinical studies in India for 2.5 years and have the opportunity to attend anatomy sessions with human cadavers. They then hone their clinical skills in Malaysian hospitals in Malacca and general hospitals. Such handson training is advantageous for graduates when they commence practice.

Melaka-Manipal also runs the Foundation in Science (FIS) programme where school leavers take a one-year pre-university course where they are prepared with solid groundwork covering medical subjects they will encounter in their degree studies later.

Besides Malacca and medical studies, Manipal has a full-fledged university in Nilai, Negri Sembilan – Manipal International University, which offers degrees in engineering, business and science, and postgraduate, diploma and foundation studies.

Manipal’s campuses in India and Malaysia are purpose-built to provide an environment that encourages undisturbed study, balanced with avenues for recreation. Its campuses in Malacca and Muar are no less, as both are ideally situated close to town. All three campuses are equipped with a sports hall, gymnasium, swimming pool and a Zen room for relaxation and recharging.

Enrolment for the next MBBS and BDS intake in October and FIS in July are
