Surprise summit food creations

-

PRIOR to the meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un on Tuesday, some enterprising outlets in Singapore came out with their own creations to mark this historic summit.

At Mexican restaurant Lucha Loco, customers got stuck into an El Trumpo, a version of a taco that included a beef patty and pickles.

It was complemented by the Rocket Man, a taco stuffed with Korean fried chicken and pickled radish – a nod to the derogatory term that Trump has used to refer to Kim.

Several restaurants also came up with fusion versions of the classic American fast-food burger, a Trump favourite. These typically featured a beef patty topped with kimchi, a Korean staple of spicy and pickled cabbage.

Italian fine-dining restaurant Sinfonia focused more on the refined tastes of luxury-loving Kim with a special summit menu, R.B.W. (for red, blue and white, in reference to the colours of both the US and North Korean flags).

It featured high-quality Japanese beef and caviar, both reportedly favourites of Kim.

Even local favourite nasi lemak, a chilliinfused rice dish traditionally eaten at breakfast, got a summit makeover with one restaurant coming up with a version featuring kimchi.

Local bartenders also rose to the occasion, with Hopheads bar offering the Bromance, a mix of beer, tequila, diet Coke and Korean liquor soju.

The Trump, a blue, bourbon-based cocktail, and the Kim, a red, soju-based drink, were on sale at watering hole Escobar for S$12.60 (RM37.70) each, a reference to the summit’s June 12 date. – AFPRelaxnews
