Full Cabinet line-up by this week?

> Announcement expected but final say rests with PM

- BY ADRIAN PHUNG

PUTRAJAYA: The full Cabinet list will likely be announced in the next few days, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

“The PM told me it would probably take some time but my guess is that it will be ready by the end of this week,” Wan Azizah said during a joint press conference with Japan’s ambassador to Malaysia Dr Makio Miyagawa after the latter’s courtesy visit to her office in Bangunan Perdana Putra yesterday.

However, the Women, Family and Community Development minister stressed that the shortlisting of candidates and announcement of the full Cabinet is the prime minister’s sole prerogative.

On Miyagawa’s visit, Wan Azizah said the discussion was fruitful and Japan has expressed willingness to share its expertise in disaster management.

Japan has vast experience in managing disasters and our National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) would benefit from the move, she added.

“Nadma could learn from the training and sharing of know-how in a number of areas, such as early warning technologies that help predict and prepare for disasters as well as advanced planning on how to deal with major disasters.”

Wan Azizah said Malaysia would also be seeking advice and assistance from Japan on the issues of the ageing population and women leadership development, as well as Japan’s social protection policies.

On Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s request for a soft loan from Japan, Miyagawa said Japanese bankers are fairly positive towards it although there has not been any clear response yet from them.
